Citizenship Reading Test Practice

Read each sentence out loud, clearly. Then listen to the audio and decide honestly if you read it correctly.

USCIS publishes the reading and writing vocabulary, not the exact test sentences. These sentences are original practice material built from that vocabulary. Automatic feedback is for practice only; on test day the USCIS officer decides.

About the reading test

How does the citizenship reading test work?

The officer gives you a sentence to read out loud. If you do not read it correctly, you get another sentence, up to three. You pass when you read one of the three correctly.

Which words should I practice for the reading test?

The words on the official USCIS reading vocabulary list: question words, civics words such as people, places and holidays, and common verbs. Every sentence on this page uses only those words, and the full list is on the vocabulary page.
